Synopsis
Why read?
Who to read?
Where to read?
Read in silence?
Talk about what you have read?
Despise one author? Adore another?
Curse the teacher who forces you to read or bless them, ten years after finishing school, for teaching you to enjoy leafing through the pages of a book?
And what is a book?
A book can be a universe or an abyss, fullness or emptiness, an obligation or a duty or – perhaps – love.
There are those who love to smell the pages of a newly purchased book, those who use it to fill an awkward gap in the living room bookcase, those who dog-ear the pages to keep their place, and those who would never lend a book to even their best friend: they would rather buy it for them!
How many worlds, how many vices, how many obsessions are revealed by the reader, and how many fears, how many prejudices, how many reasons by the non-reader!
The show is a long, brilliant dialogue that directly involves the audience. It is a theatrical journey that originated in direct contact with young readers, particularly in relation to a long experience of promoting reading in the libraries of the Municipality of Modena.
Through play, irony and the direct participation of the audience, it reminds us that… ‘The pleasure of reading has not been lost. It has only been misplaced. And it can be easily found again.’
